Only a small percentage of people have naturally straight hair. But because pin-straight locks are stylish, many women (and men) use products to tame curly and wavy hair. These products work wonders most of the year, making tangled, unruly hair much smoother and easier to manage. They do not, however, do well in summer months, when the humidity in the air can cause strands to frizz up. Here are five tips to prevent this unwanted transformation.
1. Dry Completely
When hair is dry, it’s less likely to absorb moisture from humid air that may cause it to curl. If at all possible, strands should be dried naturally, without a hair dryer, since the heat from blow-drying causes split ends that make locks look frizzy.
2. Avoid Oils
Because greasy hair takes a lot longer to dry, and therefore, absorbs more moisture, it’s important to stay away from hair care products that contain a lot of oils.
3. Stop Brushing So Much
Excessive combing can add volume to naturally curly or wavy hair, which, when combined with humidity, can result in a tangled mess.
4. Use Conditioner
Some hair care products are a godsend when the mercury rises. Using a good conditioner can add vital moisture to parched locks, reducing the risk that they’ll absorb too much moisture from the air.
5. Don’t Touch
Already in a vulnerable state due to the humidity, stroking, twirling, or touching hair throughout the day can cause it to kink up. Avoiding all contact may stop strands from reverting to their natural texture.
Follow these simple tips to stop summer frizz and prevent months of bad hair days.
